Der Künstler Jan M. Petersen ist bekannt für seine vielfältige Arbeit im Bereich der Kunst im öffentlichen Raum, Skulpturen und Architektur. Bereits in seiner frühen Jugend zeigte sich seine Leidenschaft für handwerkliche Tätigkeiten und die Gestaltung von Raum und Form.

• 12. Juli 1977 – Besitz des ersten eigenen Werkzeugkastens.

• 9. Februar 1995 – Reise nach Nepal, wo er eine zweite Atelierwohnung einrichtete, um den Austausch zwischen Kulturen und Kunst zu vertiefen.

• 8. August 1996 – Abschluss als Diplom-Ingenieur in Architektur.

• 3. April 1999 – Reise nach Indien auf dem Motorrad. Parallel dazu begann er mit der Arbeit im Bereich Architekturmodellbau.

• 23. Mai 2000 – Eröffnung der Freiluftgalerie am Boxhagener Platz in Berlin, eine der ersten Kunstinitiativen im öffentlichen Raum in der Region.

• 8. März 2001 – Eröffnung der Ateliergalerie „Haarkunst 15“ zusammen mit Freunden. Zu seinen Arbeiten gehören auch erste Beschriftungen im öffentlichen Raum.

• 7. Februar 2003 – Beginn zahlreicher Auftragsarbeiten im Bereich Kunst und Design.

• 10. Mai 2004 – Gründung des Instituts für Bild- und Materialforschung, das in Pfaffendorf, Brandenburg, einen festen Sitz bekam.

• 8. August 2008 – Das Kunstprojekt „Kunstkaufhaus – Ost“ erlangte internationale Aufmerksamkeit und wurde zu einem wichtigen Bestandteil seines künstlerischen Schaffens.

• 3. Februar 2011 – Bauarbeiten an den Ausstellungshallen in Pfaffendorf nehmen Gestalt an und gewinnen an Ausdruckskraft.

• 6. Juli 2012 – Veröffentlichung des Buches „13 Jahre Arbeiten“, erschienen im Verlag des Instituts für Bild- und Materialforschung.

• 13. Februar 2016 – Der Einsatz von Cortenstahl und Metall als neue Materialien eröffnete neue Dimensionen in der künstlerischen Praxis von Jan M. Petersen. Große, markante Skulpturen entstanden, die die Ästhetik der Moderne mit industriellen Elementen verbinden.

Heute lebt und arbeitet Jan M. Petersen in Brandenburg und Berlin. Seine Arbeiten sind in Galerien und öffentlichen Raumprojekten zu finden und widmen sich der Verknüpfung von Architektur, Kunst und Materialforschung.

The artist Jan M. Petersen is known for his diverse work in the field of public art, sculpture and architecture. His passion for craftsmanship and the design of space and form was already evident in his early youth.

July 12, 1977 – Owns his first toolbox.

February 9, 1995 – Trip to Nepal, where he set up a second studio apartment to deepen the exchange between cultures and art.

August 8, 1996 – Graduated with a degree in architecture.

April 3, 1999 – Trip to India on a motorcycle. At the same time, he began working in the field of architectural model making.

May 23, 2000 – Opening of the open-air gallery on Boxhagener Platz in Berlin, one of the first art initiatives in public spaces in the region.

March 8, 2001 – Opening of the studio gallery “Haarkunst 15” together with friends. His works also include his first inscriptions in public spaces.

February 7, 2003 – Start of numerous commissioned works in the field of art and design.

May 10, 2004 – Founding of the Institute for Image and Material Research, which was given a permanent base in Pfaffendorf, Brandenburg.

February 13, 2016 – The use of Corten steel and metal as new materials opened up new dimensions in Jan M. Petersen’s artistic practice. Large, striking sculptures were created that combine the aesthetics of modernism with industrial elements.

Today Jan M. Petersen lives and works in Brandenburg and Berlin. His works can be found in galleries and public space projects and are dedicated to linking architecture, art and material research.
